The birds and animals were designed by Philip Webb, which William Morris incorporated into the background of swirling acanthus. The tapestry was woven at Merton Abbey by three of Morris’s most experienced staff: William Knight, John Martin and William Sleath and was shown at the 1890 Arts and Crafts Exhibition.
